The Easter Bunny

The young boy crawled out of bed,

Thoughts of candy filling his head.

Through his door, then down the hall,

He’d search until he’d found it all.

Trying not to wake up mom and dad,

He didn’t want them to think him bad.

He snuck quietly past the big T.V.

Then what did his shocked eyes see?

Standing by dad’s favorite chair,

He saw a giant six-foot hare.

The Easter Bunny! He could not deny.

The boy knelt down and started to cry.

He felt a warm hand on his back,

A soft voice said, “Don’t cry, Jack.”

Jack looked up through tear-filled eyes.

“I did not know, I just did not realize.

I always thought that you were a big fake,

And they hid things when I wasn’t awake.”

The Bunny cocked his head to the left then right,

He smiled a broad smile, his eyes twinkling bright.

“Jack, you know that’s not completely true,

If you didn’t believe, I couldn’t be seen by you.

You’re at an age where you want to look grown,

But you still believe in what can’t be shown.”

Jack hugged the Bunny oh so tight,

Then said, “I’ll never forget this night.

I won’t give up on what I know is real,

No matter how others make me feel.

The Easter Bunny will always be a big part,

Of the love and faith that I keep in my heart.

Running

Running makes me happy and free,

Especially running by the sea.

I love to run every day,

Maybe run then stop and play.

People ask me why I run.

I say that it is great fun.

It is also a healthy habit.

I can run just like a rabbit.

You should run, fast or slow,

just keep your body on the go.

Too many people sit and stop,

Then gorge on food until they pop.

Put down that greasy steak!

Throw away that sugary cake!

Get up out of that comfy chair,

find some running shoes to wear.

Get yourself out on that street,

other runners you may meet.

Out in the sun is where I’ll be,

running makes me happy and free.

The Power of Nature

The fire burned with orange light,

Reflecting off the snow of white.

The snow melted as it fell,

Over the forest of burning hell.

Fire burned quickly through the trees,

Urged on by the hefty breeze.

The air filled with thickening smoke,

Causing the animals to cough and choke.

Melting snow then created a flood,

Turning scorched earth into mud.

Nature can destroy and create,

The old forest is gone but just wait.

When winter is gone, come back in Spring,

And you’ll see many wondrous things.

The Homerun

Baseball is the sport I love,

Bats and balls, a leather glove.

The field is green, the sky is blue,

The sun so bright it warms you.

You leave the bench to take your place,

In the box, you turn to face,

The pitcher who throws a curve.

You swing your bat, steel your nerve.

The crack of the bat is what you hear,

Then the crowd begins to cheer.

You flip the bat and watch the ball,

Soar towards the distant wall.

Around the bases, you do fly,

As the ball drops from the sky.

Over the wall, it does land,

More than a hit, oh so grand.

Any hit would have tied the score,

But you did so much more.

The bases were full, the game’s now won,

By your very first homerun!

Left Behind

Some say their heart breaks in two,

Mine is crushed by thoughts of you.

We were best friends for so long,

You’re gone now, I did nothing wrong.

I know you are going through deep pain,

And your teardrops fall like rain.

The reason you left, I know why,

I am friends with the other guy.

When you left him, you left me, too.

And now I’m here, feeling blue.

I’ll move on someday, I know,

But I’ll still wish you didn’t go.

I’ll miss you every single day,

And wonder why you couldn’t stay.

If this is the end, I’ll say one last thing,

I wish you all the happiness that life can bring.

Sunny Dreams

Sunshine beats down on your face.

Causing dreams of a seaside place.

The dog days of summer are still not quite here.

But the cold and the snow are no longer a fear.

Soon, you’ll feel the sultry heat of the sun.

Early mornings will be the best time to run.

Sweat drenches your body as your feet pound the sand.

Your mind wanders to vacation in a faraway land.

For now, you put the thoughts out of your mind.

You go into the shower as your body unwinds.

Another workday has started, try not to feel blue.

Hold onto your dreams and someday they’ll come true.

Tick Tock

Some days seem to last an eternity.

From nine to five feels like infinity.

You spend too much time watching the clock.

Waiting and waiting for each tick tock.

Minutes last for hours, hours for days.

Every single moment is like a foggy haze.

The time period of the workday lasts too long.

When you’d rather be dancing or singing a song.

Life’s responsibilities force you to work each day.

But the weekend brings an era of fun and play.

Don’t let time take control of you.

Live every moment and enjoy what you do.

The First Date

The briefest eye contact, you give just a shy peek.
He flashes a smile, you wonder if he will speak?
You try hard not to fumble this first impression.
It’s not the time for any heartfelt confession.
Then he meets your eyes, was that a blink or a wink?
With him so close your racing mind just can’t seem think.
His gaze has become more than just a fleeting glance.
Your nerves settle and you decide to take your chance.
“So, I wondered, I mean I wanted to ask you,
If you’d be interested in dinner for two?”
His wide smile broadened; his blue eyes outshone the sun.
“Dinner alone with you sounds like a lot of fun.”
The ice is now broken, so you both start to talk.
As you take his warm hand and you begin to walk.
The afternoon flies by, it is getting quite late.
You arrive at the restaurant for your first date.
