The Evil Mage

The noonday sky as dark as night.

Nary a sun or star in sight.

Every head turned toward the sky.

We all thought we might soon die.

Where did the bright sun go?

When will new light begin to show?

An evil mage made his claim.

For the darkness, he took the blame.

He set out to rule the land.

With a plan that’s bold and grand.

He led his army to secure his rule.

To oppose him, you’d be a fool.

The mage’s power continued to grow.

But signs of resistance began to show.

The darkened sun showed new light.

The knights of old rejoined the fight.

The sun’s bright light, shining in the dark,

Strengthened that small rebellious spark.

A bright blue sky now held sway.

The mage’s army was swept away.

The Return of Spring

Spring is hiding in the trees,

Hiding from the Winter breeze.

Snow still heaped on the ground,

Not one flower can be found.

But I know Spring will soon be here,

The sun will shine, the birds will cheer.

Warmth will return to the land,

Trees and flowers looking grand.

Fresh mown grass tickles my bare feet,

As I soak in the new Spring heat.

I pick strawberries, plump and fresh,

Biting into their succulent flesh.

I pick some more, continue on my way,

Enjoying this bright, Springtime day.

Stopping Time

Minutes feel like hours, hours like days,

But the years fly by in a blurry haze.

There should be a remote control for life,

slow down the fun, skip over the strife.

Until the day that dream comes true,

I’ll just stop time with a kiss from you.

The Hike

This hiking trail is rocky and steep,

into the forest, oh so deep.

Over the hills and across the streams,

it goes on forever, or so it seems.

At peace with nature, yes, I am,

walking alone or with the fam.

Sometimes I take in the view,

Other times I take a few,

pictures of what I see,

to share with you and with me.

I put my camera back away,

for the day is turning grey.

This hike now nears its end,

I see the trail start to bend,

toward the place that we did park.

Then my dog starts to bark,

at the cars or at a toad,

soon we are on the road.

Our hiking day is now done,

as always, we had lots of fun.

Ocean Storm

The ocean waves lapped the shore.

First one, then one more.

Faster and faster the tide rolled in.

Nature’s patience growing thin.

The billowing wind turned into a gale.

The current stronger than a blue whale.

Brine-tipped waves battered the land.

The power of the sea, frightening yet grand.

Finally, the clouds parted, the sky turned blue.

The beach, again, safe for me and for you.

Springtime

Its springtime now and you know,

Things will soon start to grow.

The snow is finally in the past,

The freezing cold cannot last.

Shovels and sleds neatly stacked,

Coats and hats have been packed.

All the trees are turning green.

Flowers and plants can be seen,

In the fields and in your yard.

So, you best be on your guard.

With new growth, comes the bees,

Buzzing around flowers and trees.

Sunny days on the way,

Warmth is here to stay.

You prepare your picnic things,

And all that summertime brings.

Summer though is not quite here,

Let springtime bring some cheer.

Words

Words are the paint upon my canvas.

Words are the clay on my pottery wheel.

Words are the thread in my tapestry.

Words fill me up and make me whole, so I can spew them forth and share them once again with the world.

Finally Spring

The warmth of the sun upon your face,

flowers appearing all over the place.

Spring is finally here,

a time that you hold so dear.

Winter snow has melted away,

cold weather once again at bay.

Your thoughts turn to warmer things,

and all that summertime brings.

But for now, there’s work to do,

rake the yard and pull weeds, too.

Plant the garden, mow the grass,

help your mom, don’t give her sass.

Your brothers help to get things done,

now you all can have some fun.

You ride your bikes and enjoy the day,

glad that summer is not far away.

Easter at the Casino

It’s Easter Sunday at the casino.

So many people playing slots and Bingo.

Fresh out of a church, they gamble and sin,

Praying that their next bet is the big win.

They condemn other people for this sin or that,

Then gamble their kid’s college fund on baccarat.

They strut through the town, praising the Lord,

All the while, dreaming of the keno board.

Not all with faith are like that, this is very true,

But if you are, don’t judge me until you judge you.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone,

Until that is you, please leave me alone!
